Job summary

Tenable, Inc. is seeking a Data Analyst in our Business Intelligence organization to turn operational and customer data into actionable reports and dashboards.

You will partner with internal teams, such as sales compensation, to gather requirements and build usable data assets. Your hands-on work will include writing SQL views and constructing dashboards in Databricks, with emphasis on context engineering and metadata.

Qualifications

• 2 to 4 years of BI, reporting, or data analyst experience.
• Hybrid schedule with ability to commute to Columbia, MD three days a week or to Boston, MA three days a week.
• Proficiency in SQL including joins, aggregations and filtering.
• Experience building dashboards with Databricks, Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
• Strong communication skills to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with ability to document data objects and logic for downstream users.

Responsibilities

Your Role:

As a Data Analyst in our Business Intelligence organization, you will turn operational and customer data into actionable reports and dashboards that drive business decisions. You will partner directly with internal business teams, such as sales compensation, to gather reporting requirements, document technical specifications, and build user friendly data assets.

Your primary hands‑on work will involve writing SQL views and building dashboards directly within Databricks using data populated by our engineering team. A key aspect of this role is context engineering, where you will add structured descriptions and metadata to tables, views, and columns so that our data is easily discoverable and accurately queried by AI tools like Claude. Additionally, you will validate report accuracy, monitor data quality, and maintain documentation of your reporting logic to ensure long‑term reliability.

• You will have the opportunity to build and scale the business reporting layer within Databricks.

• Leverage modern AI coding agents, such as Databricks' Genie or Claude, to assist in writing and optimizing your queries.

What You'll Need:

• 2 to 4 years of experience in a business intelligence, reporting, or data analyst role.
• To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following criteria: Hybrid schedule with the ability to commute to our Columbia, MD office three days a week, or hybrid schedule with the ability to commute to our Boston, MA office three days a week.
• Fundamental working proficiency in SQL, including an understanding of select statements, order of operations, joins, aggregations, and filtering.
• Basic to working proficiency with Databrick, a comparable lakehouse, or cloud data platform such as Snowflake.
• Experience building dashboards and presenting data visually using tools like Databricks native dashboards, Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively gather requirements from non-technical business stakeholders and translate them into usable data assets.
• A detail oriented mindset with comfort in documenting data objects, definitions, and logic for downstream users.

And Ideally:

• Prior experience writing table and column descriptions or metadata to support data catalogs, semantic layers, or natural language query tools.
• Exposure to Python or PySpark within Databricks notebooks, which will give you a significant advantage for career progression on this specific team.
• Familiarity with analytics engineering practices, such as dbt, or version control systems like Git.
• Experience working in enterprise software, SaaS, or cybersecurity environments.

This is the base pay range for this position. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, location and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Employees are also eligible for variable compensation in addition to base pay (commission for sales roles, bonus for non-sales roles), depending on company and individual performance. US Pay Range

$72,500 - $96,500 USD
