Job summary

The City of Tucson’s Police Department is seeking a Data Analyst I to design, build, and maintain business intelligence and reporting to support sound operational decisions.

Responsibilities include creating dashboards, resolving data issues, and translating data into actionable insights, under supervision. Requires an associate degree with limited relevant experience; a bachelor’s in a related field is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required; substitutions allowed for relevant education/experience.
  • Under one year of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, GIS, MIS, math, economics, finance or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in coding languages and/or data visualization platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain dashboards on digital visualization platforms to streamline operations and reports.
  • Research and resolve issues related to programming, visualization platforms, and statistics.
  • Identify BI, reporting, and analytics needs by turning data into actionable information.
  • Work with databases, GIS software, and statistical programs to provide critical information.
  • Support decision-making with analytical insights from diverse data sources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Data Analyst I position at the City of Tucson's Police Department assists with designing, building, and maintaining business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needed to make sound decisions that enhance operations. The Data Analyst I applies departmental policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues and to develop professional expertise. Work is performed under the supervision of an Analysis Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists with creating and maintaining solutions and dashboards on digital visualization platforms for use in streamlining operational efficiency and generating reports.
  • Researches and resolves issues related to programming and scripting languages, data visualization platforms, and/or statistical methodologies to maintain accuracy and access for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies business intelligence, reporting, and data analytics needs at the department-level by turning data into critical information and knowledge.
  • Assists and performs limited operational functions using relational databases, geographic information systems software, and/or statistical programs to provide critical information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Informs departmental operations and decision-making, by providing analytical insights, gathering and analyzing data from various sources and assisting with and applying methods and standard practices.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions Mostly office environment. All duties and responsibilities listed are subject to change.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree
  • Experience: Under one (1) year of relevant experience
  • Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • License/Certifications: Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Statistics or Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or relevant applied analytical field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in coding languages and/or data visualization platforms.
