Job Profile Title

Data Analyst C

Job Description Summary

The University of Pennsylvania is a national leader in advancing knowledge of the basic immunology of inflammation, autoimmunity, cancer, transplantation, and infection. Within Penn, the newly created Institute for Immunology and Immune Health (I3H) aims to bring together fundamental immunology and translational research with computational infrastructure to scale and integrate immunological knowledge into the electronic medical record.

I3H is seeking a skilled Data Analyst to join our multi-disciplinary team. Under the supervision of a Senior Data Analyst, and in collaboration with other programmers, immunologists and technicians, the employee will develop, maintain and deploy analysis pipelines that produce actionable insights from the large-scale datasets generated by the Institute.

Job Description

The multidisciplinary team at the Institute for Immunology and Immune Health is looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented data analyst who will work with a team of programmers, immunologists, and clinicians to support day-to-day operations and analytics pipeline development. The ideal candidate is passionate about both exploratory and production level data analysis and is interested in developing a common language with the immunologists, clinicians, and wet bench scientists whom the analytics effort supports.

  • Develop a detailed understanding of existing pipelines for quality control, analysis and interpretation of immunological data, and deploy them to new data that Immune Health is continuously generating.
  • Contribute code to new pipelines and functionalities.
  • Prepare results in written, tabular and graphical summaries, to help stakeholders make decisions and support publications.
  • Communicate frequently with the team to ensure that the computational work reflects biological and clinical goals. This includes generating reports tracking projects' progress.
  • Be flexible and adapt workflows to shifting priorities and requirements.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in computer science or a quantitative discipline with at least 2-3 years of experience in data analysis, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with data wrangling and analytics in R.
  • Good understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including written documentation and data visualization.
  • Interest in developing a basic fluency in the assays and data types used for immunology research.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Python, C++ or the command line.
  • Experience working with single-cell cytometry, transcriptomics, genomics or related biological data.

Position is contingent upon continued funding.
