Job description

HIRING RATE: $72,190.00 (FLAT)

The Office of Building Water System Oversight (BWSO) within the Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ESE) is responsible for conducting inspections to ensure compliance with rules and regulations aimed at improving the operating conditions of systems such as cooling towers, water tanks, evaporative condensers, internal plumbing, and wastewater systems. The program manages data related to cooling tower registration, inspections, compliance, laboratory results, outbreak incidents, and supports drinking water tank inspection data management. BWSO is seeking a Data Analyst to join the Data Analysis and Special Projects Unit.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
  1. Assist in applying data analytics and managing databases to derive insights from inspection and research data, supporting better decision-making aligned with Agency objectives and regulatory enforcement.
  2. Support the design and maintenance of databases and develop tools to connect data, field operations, compliance, and technical units.
  3. Help troubleshoot data tools for users, including web portals, mobile inspection tools, and analysis applications (e.g., Excel, Access, SQL).
  4. Coordinate data exchange with external agencies, ensuring timely and accurate updates as directed.
  5. Perform data validation and cleaning, documenting changes and following quality assurance practices.
  6. Contribute to SOP development and documentation for data collection and tools.
  7. Assist in managing scheduling and inspection data to support program goals.
  8. Generate reports and visualizations to assess program outcomes.
  9. Participate in research projects, analyzing building water systems data and addressing performance questions.
  10. Collaborate on feature requests and improvements for data collection applications based on user feedback.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  1. Experience managing data systems and creating reporting tools for field operations and research.
  2. Ability to integrate data from multiple sources, perform basic statistical analyses, and produce reports under supervision.
  3. Knowledge of SQL, Access, VBA, Python, R, GIS, or willingness to learn these tools.
  4. Understanding of data structures, including XML and SQL, with a focus on data organization and analysis.
