Job Description
As a Data Analyst, you will be responsible for analyzing, modeling, forecasting, and optimizing financial data related to cloud infrastructure and on-premises technology environments. This role combines financial analysis, cloud cost management, data visualization, and business intelligence expertise to support strategic decision-making, budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, expertise in Power BI and financial reporting, and the ability to translate complex technical and financial data into actionable insights for business and technology stakeholders. You will collaborate closely with cloud engineering, infrastructure, operations, and finance teams to improve cost transparency, forecasting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret cloud and on-premises technology financial data, including consumption trends, billing structures, allocation models, and chargeback methodologies.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support financial analysis and decision-making.
- Identify cost trends, spending patterns, optimization opportunities, and migration impacts across technology environments.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analysis to identify anomalies, risks, and opportunities for cost savings.
- Maintain, validate, and enhance datasets sourced from multiple enterprise systems to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Document reporting processes, analytical methodologies, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, operations, and finance stakeholders to align financial models with business and operational requirements.
- Support cloud migration initiatives by developing cost models, forecasting resource utilization, and evaluating capacity requirements.
- Develop forecasts and scenario models to support budgeting, planning, and investment decisions.
- Contribute to cloud financial management and FinOps initiatives by providing insights into utilization, efficiency, and cost drivers.
- Present findings, recommendations, and reporting outputs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to reporting, analytics, automation, and data governance.
Required Skills, Experiences, Education, and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Accounting, or a related field.
- Advanced proficiency with Power BI, including Power Query, DAX, data modeling, dashboard design, and report development.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, financial models, data analysis, and forecasting.
- Strong understanding of data visualization principles and business intelligence best practices.
- Experience working with data from multiple heterogeneous sources and maintaining complex datasets.
- Strong data modeling, data manipulation, and analytical skills.
- Experience analyzing financial, operational, or technology-related data.
- High level of familiarity with Azure Cost Management, cloud consumption reporting, cloud billing structures, and cost allocation methodologies.
- Experience working with Apptio or similar IT financial management platforms.
- Understanding of cloud financial operations (FinOps), cloud cost optimization strategies, and financial forecasting techniques.
- Knowledge of server migration strategies, infrastructure modernization initiatives, and workload cost modeling.
- Ability to translate technical and financial information into meaningful business insights and recommendations.
- Experience creating executive dashboards, scorecards, forecasts, and management reports.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present findings to both business and technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills, Experiences, Education, and Competencies
- FinOps certification, training, or practical experience.
- Experience working with Azure Reserved Instances and cloud capacity planning strategies.
- Experience forecasting cloud consumption and supporting cloud migration business cases.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture, IT strategy, and technology investment planning frameworks.
- Experience supporting cloud transformation, infrastructure modernization, or enterprise technology cost optimization initiatives.
- Familiarity with financial planning, budgeting, and cost governance processes within large organizations.
The hourly range for roles of this nature are $40.00 to $80.00/hr. Rates are heavily dependent on skills, experience, location, and industry.
