Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer/data science (or related IT field) with 4+ years experience.
• Or an associate’s degree with 6+ years experience.
• Or 8 years’ experience in data governance or related IT roles.

Responsibilities

• Support development and maintenance of data governance frameworks, standards, and procedures.
• Assist with data dictionaries, glossaries, and metadata repositories.
• Document data definitions, ownership, usage rules, and retention with stewards.
• Monitor data quality across enterprise systems and recommend fixes.
• Collaborate with functional teams to identify root causes and actions.
• Support FERPA and other regulatory requirements related to data governance.
• Define data classification standards and access controls.
• Coordinate with information security on data risk assessments.
• Maintain and enhance the College’s reporting environment (Informer, etc.).

Data Analyst
Overview:
The Data Analyst supports institutional data governance by helping ensure that data is accurate, secure, well-defined, and used responsibly. This role works collaboratively across functional departments and with designated data stewards to establish and support institutionally defined data standards, improve data quality, and promote consistent data practices across the college, without owning or making business data decisions. The role also develops and maintains the College’s institutional reporting environment in support of these objectives.

Fulfill technical support needs of the College, as part of the broader responsibilities, as defined by supervisor. Use the ITS ticket system to carry out support tickets in a well-documented and auditable fashion. Interface with end users as necessary. Work closely with supervisor and peers to learn existing standards and procedures of existing systems.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Support the development and maintenance of institutional data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures
• Assist with the creation and upkeep of data dictionaries, glossaries, and metadata repositories
• Partner with data stewards and functional leaders to document data definitions, ownership, usage rules, and IT data retention
• Monitor and analyze data quality issues across enterprise systems
• Work with functional teams to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
• Support data governance activities related to FERPA and other applicable regulatory or institutional requirements (including GDPR where applicable)
• Assist in defining data classification standards and appropriate data access controls
• Collaborate with information security on data-related risk assessments and controls
• Maintain and enhance the College’s reporting environment (Entrinsik Informer). This includes reports, datasets, dataviews, jobs, data security, etc.
• Analyze trends and patterns to support institutional decision-making
• Provide technical support for the College’s state reporting (HEI).
• Provide training and guidance to campus users on data standards and best practices

General Responsibilities:

• Serve as a business analyst to connect business needs to IT solutions
• Modify existing and/or build new data solutions
• Receive cross-training from senior staff
• Adhere to all Service Level Agreements
• Provide support documentation for ITS staff and end users
• Provide project management updates for assigned projects
• Troubleshoot support issues of existing production systems and programs
• Monitor the ITS ticket system and respond to support issues
• Assist in the development of assigned projects with direction from supervisor.
• Interface with internal clients and other ITS staff may be a daily activity.
• Contacting vendors may be necessary when troubleshooting or performing maintenance.
• Contact with programming staff at other educational institutions may be required for comparison information.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
