Job summary

The YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Dance/Tumbling Instructor to lead engaging dance and tumbling sessions, greet members, and ensure a safe, effective experience that supports health and wellness goals.

Schedule includes Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm, with support for gymnastics for ages 2-6. Dance experience and strong communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16+; work permit if in high school
• 18+; fingerprinting required per SD County regulations
• Dance experience preferred
• All trainings within 90 days of hire
• Strong communication and ability to work with all fitness levels
• Knowledge of fitness principles and practical applications
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for Adult and Child/Infant, from ARC/AHA/ASHI

• Create a positive member experience by greeting and engaging participants
• Demonstrate proper form, provide modifications, and cueing
• Maintain a clean, safe workout area
• Utilize scheduled class time effectively
• Set up and breakdown class equipment within timeframe
• Build community and help members reach Health & Wellness goals
• Adhere to YMCA core functions and class guidelines
• Communicate effectively to large and small groups
• Lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities
• Respond quickly to emergencies with appropriate actions
• Perform other duties as assigned

Overview

The Dance/Tumbling Instructor is responsible for building positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service, guidance and leadership. The Instructor creates and leads dance classes in a safe, effective, and timely manner, appropriate to the level of the participants in class, to enhance the physical, mental, and spiritual health of each student.

Schedule

• Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays: 4pm - 6pm
• This positional will also be supporting the gymnastics department with tumbling for ages 2-6.
• Tumbling and Dance experience required.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive member experience through welcoming participants and ensuring they are actively engaged in their workout
• Provide a safe workout routine by demonstrating proper form and technique, appropriate modifications, and cueing
• Maintain a clean and safe workout area
• Effectively utilize scheduled class time
• Properly set up and breakdown class equipment in allotted timeframe
• Build community through forming positive relationships through learning names, and helping members reach their Health & Wellness Goals
• Adhere to the core functions of the YMCA and exemplify Y Group Exercise Class Guidelines
• Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members
• Physical ability to lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum of 16 years of age or older
• If actively enrolled in high school, a valid school district Work Permit is required
• 18 years of age or older, licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
• Dance experience preferred
• All job required trainings within 90 days from date of hire
• Strong communication skills and the capability to work with members of all fitness levels and abilities
• Knowledge of fitness principles and practical applications required
• CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within30 daysofhireand must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $19.69 - USD $23.63 /Hr.
