Job summary

Center for Family Life in Sunset Park in Brooklyn, NY, seeks a Teaching Artist – Dance (Various Styles) to engage middle and high school youth in school-based and afterschool settings.

The role designs age-appropriate curricula, teaches multiple dance styles, and choreographs performances, including an original production. Collaboration with DOE staff and a multi-disciplinary team is essential; background check is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or at least 4 years of dance instruction experience.
  • Experience working with middle and high school students.
  • Strong dance background across styles and techniques.
  • Use dance for self-expression, performing arts development, and community building.
  • Commitment to inclusive dance for diverse learners.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Background check and medical clearance required.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish or English/Mandarin/Cantonese preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design age-appropriate, standards-based dance curricula for groups of middle and/or high school age youth in school day, afterschool and summer programs.
  • Provide instruction in a range of dance styles, choreograph dance pieces, and lead weekly dance activities for middle and high school student groups.
  • Collaborate with participants to make dance pieces and original material for performances throughout the year.
  • Choreograph, direct, and collaborate with colleagues to produce 3 annual program-wide performances, including an original production.
  • The original production includes staff overnight cabin-based rehearsals for community building.
  • Collaborate with other teaching artists on interdisciplinary projects with DOE staff.
  • Work with a diverse staff to supervise after-school and in-school programs and plan events.
