OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Notre Dame High School seeks an experienced dance teacher who will bring a strong foundation in dance and a passion for engaging and supporting a diverse range of skill levels and abilities. They will design and implement instruction that builds students’ confidence and skill through conservatory and student-centered approaches. The Dance Teacher position is a part-time exempt role within the Performing Arts Department and is responsible for teaching Dance I (Full Year), Dance II (Full Year), and a thirdof a semester-long Musical Theatre Dance course. The teacher will inspire students to explore movement as an expressive art form, support technical development, and foster creativity and confidence through the performing arts. The teacher will also collaborate with other performing arts faculty in support of concerts, musicals, showcases, and other school-wide performances and events.

We expect our educators to support students by caring about their well-being both inside and outside the classroom. This includes occasionally attending events such as athletic games, theater productions, or other school-related activities to show encouragement and build community. Evening and weekend commitments may include Open House events, admissions activities, curriculum nights, and department-specific workshops. Additional responsibilities include assisting with admissions interviews and fulfilling other department-related duties as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach Dance I, Dance II, and Musical Theatre Dance classes according to department curriculum guidelines.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that address technical skill, choreography, dance history, and personal artistic growth.
  • Provide opportunities for students to perform and reflect on their progress and artistry.
  • Assess and evaluate student learning through both formative and summative methods.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment that supports the physical and emotional well-being of all students.
  • Collaborate with Performing Arts faculty to support school-wide performances, liturgies, and special events.
  • Participate in annual Performing Arts showcases and coordinate dance performance opportunities.
  • Partner with the Theatre faculty to choreograph and rehearse dance elements for musical theatre dance classes.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues to foster strong relationships and a supportive learning environment.
  • Stay current with developments in dance education and integrate contemporary practices and diverse dance forms into the curriculum.
  • Support department recruitment efforts and contribute to the continued growth of the Performing Arts program.
  • Participate in school-wide responsibilities including meetings, professional development, retreats, and liturgies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in school-wide and departmental faculty meetings, and professional growth opportunities held after the school day.
  • Engage in the life of the school community through presence at school Masses, assemblies, rallies, class retreats, sporting events, visual and performing arts events, etc.
Qualifications

  • Minimum: B.A. in Dance, Performing Arts or related field (Masters preferred).
  • Experience teaching dance at the high school level preferred.
  • Expertise in multiple dance genres, including ballet, jazz, moder, and musical theatre.
  • Ability to choreograph and direct for school performances.
  • Ability to relate to high school students and build positive relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries.
  • Willingness to collaborate, problem solve and share best practices with colleagues.
  • High-level of familiarity and competence across cultures and multiple perspectives.
  • Familiarity with and competence in technology skills
  • Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in educational practices aligned with Notre Dame's Holy Cross Catholic mission.
