Job summary

The Falls at Cordingly Dam in Newton, MA is seeking a Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT; BC-DMT) or an Expressive Arts Therapist with emphasis in movement/dance to join Benchmark Senior Living's Programming Team.

Responsibilities include organizing and implementing engaging wellness activities with residents, collaborating with art and music therapists, and delivering individual and group programs across the spectrum of the 6 Dimensions of Wellness.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma, bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues
• Knowledge of recreational activities and dementia care
• Confidentiality and professionalism in care settings
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and handle pressure
• Experience with elder care and activity programming

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a seven day a week activity program
• Lead one-on-one, small group and large group activities
• Support residents’ independence and engagement in activities
• Cater programs to residents' backgrounds, interests and abilities
• Collaborate with art and music therapists to design holistic activities
• Encourage resident participation and monitor engagement
• Communicate any changes in residents’ conditions to the Harbor Care Director
• Supervise group activities during excursions

-Accredited Masters of Mental Health Counseling- Dance Movement Therapy or Expressive Arts Therapy (preferred, not required)

- $23/hr - $25/hr

- Full-Time opportunity for Tuesday -Saturday.

Job Description:

TheDance Movement Therapist organizes and implements programs designed to meet the individual needs ofour residents. Also providing quality verbal and non-verbal enrichment programs with the influence of art, music, and movement for residents in our assisted living and memory care neighborhood. The role would include expanding the diverse definition of each wellness activity to meet residents where they are to enhance quality of life.

The Dance Movement Therapist will join a team consisting of art therapist(s), Music therapist(s) and expressive therapies interns to collaborate in building a spectrum of therapeutic approaches designed to meet one or all of the 6 Dimensions of Wellness for our diverse population.

Tuesday - Saturday, full time

$19.75/hr - $21/hr

Responsibilities

• Assists in the development and implementation of an innovative seven day a week activity program that is engaging
• Responsible for leading and implementing one-on-one, small group and large group activities according to the programming schedule
• Supports, encourages and directs independent activity pursuits, both individually and in small groups
• Supports the resident’s abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an activity
• Demonstrates knowledge about residents in regard to background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capability
• Encourages and motivates residents to attend and participate in programming and activities
• Communicates any changes in the residents condition or behavior pattern to Harbor Care Director
• Stays with group at all times when on excursions

Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma, bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues. Must be qualified by experience and training to develop programs appropriate for elders and disabled individuals
• Possesses training and knowledge in recreational activities
• Possesses training and knowledge of Alzheimer’s and related dementias
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community
• Shows a consistent ability to coordinate multiple tasks, demonstrates a positive attitude, and works well under pressure
