Position Summary:

Provides a positive and safe dance environment that teaches children and adults the love of dance, focusing on youth development and healthy living. The role involves mid-mornings and some evenings, with more classes beginning in May through the summer months.

Essential Functions:
  • Teach various dance styles from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Explain and demonstrate dance techniques and movements.
  • Choreograph routines and select music for recitals and concerts.
  • Motivate and encourage students to achieve their goals.
  • Help students develop skills, discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.
  • Act as a goodwill ambassador for the YMCA.
  • Ensure a well-rounded program and assess program needs.
  • Develop and review curriculum with the Youth Development Director.
  • Adhere to safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Report any suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Support administrative tasks like timesheet approvals.
  • Maintain safety and well-being of children at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum age 18.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Energetic, creative, dependable, patient, and a leader.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse prevention certifications.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
Additional Details:

This position does not involve direct supervision of staff. It requires physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 10 pounds. The work environment is moderate noise, with flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
