Job description

Dance Instructor – Assistant Company Director / Ballet Instructor

Fenton Ballet Theatre is seeking a highly qualified and passionate Ballet Instructor/Assistant Company Director to join our team starting in the fall of 2025. This role is ideal for a dedicated professional with a strong background in classical ballet, a commitment to nurturing young talent, and a desire to contribute to the growth and success of our pre-professional company. ABT National Training Curriculum certification is preferred. The successful candidate will instruct ballet technique classes and assist the Artistic Director in managing and developing the company.

Responsibilities
  • Teach classical ballet technique classes at various levels, emphasizing proper alignment, artistry, and musicality.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with Fenton Ballet Theatre's curriculum and the ABT National Training Curriculum (preferred).
  • Provide constructive feedback to foster students' technical and artistic growth.
  • Prepare students for examinations, performances, and advancement within the studio's programs.
  • Choreograph and stage classical and contemporary variations and ensemble pieces.
Student Development
  • Assist in planning and executing rehearsals, performances, and events.
  • Support company members, fostering a positive environment.
  • Assist in repertoire selection and staging.
  • Attend rehearsals and performances, providing feedback.
  • Communicate with students and parents regarding schedules and performances.
  • Maintain company records and reports.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent teaching and company direction.
  • Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and professional development.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized studio environment.
  • Enforce studio policies and dress codes.
  • Assist with studio events, performances, and outreach programs.
Hours & Compensation
  • Part-time, approximately 10 hours/week, with potential for more.
  • Primarily afternoons and early evenings, Monday-Thursday, with weekend commitments for performances and events.
  • Starting at $25/hour, negotiable based on experience.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Extensive experience teaching classical ballet.
  • Strong understanding of ballet technique and pedagogy.
  • Experience with pre-professional companies is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Passion for nurturing young dancers.
  • Choreographic experience is a plus.
Location
  • Fenton Ballet Theatre, 3309 West Silver Lake Road, Fenton, MI 48430.
  • On-site during scheduled class times and events.
