Job summary

Blue Valley Rec in Overland Park, KS seeks an enthusiastic dance instructor to teach beginner through advanced acro classes in a fun, inclusive environment. The role welcomes ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and other styles as a plus, with a focus on technique and safety for all ages.

Part-time position starting October 2026, with Wednesday availability from 4:00–7:00pm and potential future opportunities. Must be 18+, reliable, and able to motivate students while communicating with families.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching multiple dance styles with emphasis on technique and safety.

• Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead acro dance classes for ages 6+ for beginner through advanced.
• Teach technique including rolls, cartwheels, walkovers, aerials and variations.
• Develop age-appropriate lesson plans to motivate students.
• Assess skill level and adapt teaching methods.
• Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Provide feedback and communicate with students and parents.
• Coordinate with fellow instructors.

Position Details

• Ability to teach other dance styles is a plus!

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead acro dance classes for ages 6+ for beginner through advanced levels
• Teach proper technique and form–Must be able to appropriately teach rolls, cartwheels, walkovers, aerials and aerial variations, and back handsprings and back handspring variations.
• Develop age-appropriate lesson plans with fun and engaging activities to keep students motivated
• Assess each student’s skill level and adapt teaching methods as needed
• Ensure a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment for all participants
• Provide individualized feedback and encouragement to help dancers improve their skills and confidence
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and fellow instructors

Qualifications

• Background and/or experience in multiple dance styles, with strong knowledge of proper technique and safety guidelines
• Must be18 years of age or older
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor
• Ability to work with children of all ages and skill levels
• Skill in creating and modifying lesson plans to meet student needs
• Passion for teaching dance and inspiring growth and confidence
• Reliable, punctual, and professional with a strong work ethic
• Must pass a background check
