Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory in Chicago is seeking a Part Time Dance Instructor to lead dance classes, develop curriculum, and build community partnerships within the Kroc Arts & Education Department.

The role reports to the Music & Gospel Fine Arts Manager and requires a Bachelor's degree in dance or equivalent experience, with 3+ years teaching and a strong curriculum development background. Non-exempt,Pay Grade 203, in the Kroc Arts & Education Department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in dance preferred, or equivalent qualified performance experience.
• Three years teaching experience; five years preferred.
• Record of dance performance experience.
• Experience in curriculum development.

Responsibilities

• Teach dance classes.
• Design curriculum and rubrics; provide records to Kroc Fine Arts Director regularly.
• Develop and implement partnerships for dance programming with schools and organizations.
• Participate in recruitment and outreach efforts as directed by Arts and Education Director.
• Attend assigned staff meetings.
• Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.
• Follow Salvation Army policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Description

The dance instructor will be responsible for teaching dance classes, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for teaching dance classes.
2. Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course taught. A record and summary of activities must be provided to the Kroc Fine Arts Director on a regular basis.
3. Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for dance programming with schools and organizations.
4. Participate in the recruitment and outreach efforts set forth by the Arts and Education Director.
5. Attend assigned staff meetings.
6. Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.
7. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
8. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education

• Bachelor's degree in dance preferred, or equivalent qualified performance experience.

Experience

• Three years required, five years preferred of teaching experience.
• Provide a record of dance performance experience.
• Evidence of experience in curriculum development.

Skills / Abilities

• Have the ability to work with children, parents and staff in a capacity of leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
• Performance experience in individual content area of teaching.
• Experience in curriculum development of dance.
• Is expected to start class on time with room set‑up and reset room as required.
• Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.
• Must be Safe from Harm certified within 30 days of hire.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Satisfactory speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
