Position Information
The Dallas District Signal Shop is looking for a lead Traffic Signal Engineer III, IV or V to oversee operations of an extensive traffic signal network.This person will be responsible for optimizing the efficiency and safety of traffic flow by managing and adjusting traffic signals. Their roles involve analyzing traffic patterns, developing signal timing plans, implementing changes, and monitoring system performance to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and evaluate new technological equipment.
Salary Range for Each Position Level:
Position Title: Salary Grade / Range: Transportation Engineer III B26: $76,530.00 - $129,430.00 Transportation Engineer IV B27: $84,182.00 - $142,374.00 Transportation Engineer V B28: $92,600.00 - $156,612.00This position is for one (1) Traffic Signal Operations & Timing Engineer III, IV or V depending on business needs and the applicants' qualifications. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicants' work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties for a Traffic Signal & Timing Engineer III, IV and V include the following activities:
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience:
Traffic Signal & Timing Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Traffic Signal & Timing Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications:
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
