Job summary

HP Hood is a leading dairy manufacturer in the United States seeking a Lab Technician to perform testing and handle samples to help meet quality standards. The role emphasizes basic lab setup knowledge and the ability to identify quality issues on production lines.

Ideal candidates hold a BS/BA in a related science and have experience in food manufacturing, with knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, dairy standards and CIP sanitation.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in related science and/or equivalent job experience in a quality role of a food manufacturing plant.
• Experience in food manufacturing.
• Knowledge of food microbiology, chemistry, dairy standards and CIP sanitation.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing per PMO, Standard Methods for the Dairy Industry and FDA 2400 guidelines.
• Pull, log, and run finish product and processing samples for required tests.
• Pull samples of incoming raw materials and packaging to determine load acceptability.
• Audit CIP chemical concentrations and ensure compliance to specifications.
• Prepare media and lab controls including plates and buffers.
• Operate autoclave to sterilize plates and equipment and maintain sterility testing.
• Assist in PMs of equipment such as cleaning systems and autoclave maintenance.
• Inoculate batch tanks and record usages on logs.
• Clean up and review racks in incubators/coolers for shelf life testing.
• Participate in environmental testing around the plant (air, water, swabs).
• Verify sanitation compliance of plant equipment before startup.
• Support food safety and quality programs.
