Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Madison Dairy Forage Research Center seeks an Animal Care Technician II to care for dairy cattle, assist with milking, feed preparation, and cleaning. The morning shift runs 3:30 AM to 2:00 PM for four 10‑hour days, with alternating weekends.

Prior farm experience and ability to operate livestock handling equipment are preferred. Salary starts at $20.00/hr with benefits; see posting for details.

Qualifications

• Experience operating skid steers, tractors, or other farm and utility equipment.
• Prior farm or agricultural work experience.
• Ability to work safely in an agricultural environment around livestock and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Observes animal behavior, performs basic animal care, and reports concerns to contribute to health and well-being of animals and research.
• Collects samples from animals and administers medications, injections, and treatments as per protocols for diagnostics and research.
• Inspects and reports equipment problems to ensure safe operation.
• Maintains organization of animal holding spaces and supplies.
• Updates records related to research procedures.
• Prepares food and formulas and feeds animals according to schedules.
