Job description

Georgia-Pacific has an exciting opportunity for a talentedDaily Operations Center Leaderat our Palatka, Florida facility. Located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the Palatka mill employs about 975 people has four retail paper machines which produce consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels, as well as two Kraft paper machines.

The Daily Operations Center Leader is responsible for remote operation of the facility’s day-to-day Pulping, Kraft Recovery, and Power Generation processes. Key focus areas include reduction of operating employee process interactions, finding and implementing transformational operating technologies, developing/deploying advanced controls, and leveraging data analytics to optimise the facility’s operation.

This position will work inPulp, Power, and Recovery Departmentand works closely with frontline manufacturing employees, process control engineers, supervisors, and external support resources in developing, implementing, and evaluating ongoing process optimisations through the implementation of advanced controls, data analytics, and automation.

GP’s Consumer Products portfolio, including high-profile Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle® brands. GP has invested heavily at Palatka in recent years to deliver competitive tissue and towel products including a new towel paper machine. The mill also features two Kraft paper machines and recent investments in a state-of-the-art Daily Operations Center (DOC) - a singular control hub for our asset monitoring. With more than 950 team members, the mill is highly strategic operation for GP and a foundational part of the local community and economy.
Located 45 minutes west of the beautiful beaches of St. Augustine, the mill is nestled in outskirts of the growing city of Palatka. Jacksonville, Daytona Beach and Gainesville are approximately one hour away, and Orlando is only two hours! In an area ideal for many different people, interests, and lifestyles, the Palatka mill is a rare find!

What You Will Do
  • Providing positive leadership through the effective application of the PBM® business philosophy.
  • Developing and encouraging high levels of teamwork and participation on a diverse team.
  • Setting expectations and holding employees accountable to standard operating practices.
  • Fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Driving a safety-focused culture, regularly engaging-in and encouraging safety participation amongst the Daily Operations Center team.
  • Researching new and emerging uses of digital resources and technologies pertaining to remote operation of equipment.
  • Partnering with process control resources to rapidly eliminate employee touchpoints required to operate the mill’s equipment.
  • Partnering with subject matter experts to analyze operating problems and determine sustainable corrective actions.
  • Managing and advancing all aspects of manufacturing to include: Reliability, Quality, Cost, Yield, Production, and Compliance.
  • Identifying and mitigating critical hazards through advanced controls.
  • Leveraging Process Control resources to eliminate environmental risks through advanced controls.
  • Collaborating and sharing knowledge with all departments across the mill to ensure success of operational goals.
  • Providing updates to executive leaders pertaining to facility operation and implementation of transformational operating strategies.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience leading a team of direct reports.
  • Experience with Kraft Recovery, Pulping, and Power Generation processes.
  • Experience with implementing advanced controls in a continuous process production environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 collaboration tools.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Project management skills, including the utilization of Microsoft Project.
  • Experience in leading a Pulp, Power, or Recovery department.
  • Experience with Honeywell or Foxboro PLCs.
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with new capital equipment implementation and start-up.
  • Experience working in a consultative and cooperative manner with multiple stakeholders, such as analytics, corporate engineering, operations, maintenance/reliability, site process control engineers, and IT resources.
