Serves as the primary communication and information “hub” for the unit, answering telephones and patient call lights and ensuring that appropriate parties receive information in an expeditious manner. Enters patient orders into the electronic medical record in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy. Performs complex secretarial and receptionist functions including ordering and stocking needed supplies and equipment, filing, copying, and printing patient data reports for the department. Patient care tasks may be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values.

Hours: 6:45pm - 7:15am

Education & Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED required, associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registry
  • Two (2) years secretarial or comparable clerical experience required.
  • Medical Office Assistant certificate or one (1) year of business or related college coursework may be considered in lieu of clerical experience.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Initiative, self-direction, motivation, and ability to work with diverse disciplines.
Responsibilities
  • Communication: Greet others courteously, respond to questions, facilitate communication with staff, physicians, patients, and visitors, and update call light and patient tracking systems.
  • Information Processing: Prioritize orders, process data accurately into EMR, maintain paper records, and address patient/visitor concerns.
  • Medical Records Maintenance: Assemble, file, and manage patient charts and documents.
  • Service Requisitions: Ensure supplies are available, validate receipts, and maintain equipment logs.
  • Unit Operations: Use resources effectively, maintain safety, assist with patient care tasks, and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Accountability: Follow policies, maintain cleanliness, cooperate with team, support organizational standards, and perform other duties as assigned.
