Job summary

Sunrise Medical Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a qualified cytotechnologist to examine slides under a microscope, identify abnormalities, and report findings to pathologists. You will document daily throughput and hours, work in a fast-paced lab, and uphold safety and quality standards.

Certification in cytology and ASCP credentials are required, with Thinprep and SurePath certifications enhancing qualification. This full-time role is based in Chantilly, VA and includes comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of cytology.
• Cytotechnologist certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
• Thinprep Certification required; Surepath Certification preferred.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities; good judgment and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Examine prepared slides with the microscope to detect abnormalities.
• Report negative Pap Test cases and refer abnormal cases to pathologists for review.
• May read Non-GYN specimens and report findings to pathologists for final diagnosis.
• Document daily slide counts and hours spent examining slides.
• Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment; uphold safety, compliance, and quality control.

In this role, you will:

• Perform a vital part of the patient care process through examining prepared slides with the microscope to detect evidence of abnormalities
• Report negative Pap Test cases and refers abnormal cases to the pathologists for review
• May read Non-GYN specimens and report findings to the pathologists for final diagnosis
• Document for each 24-hour period, the total number of slides examined or reviewed in the laboratory or for any other employer.
• Document the number of hours spent examining slides in each 24-hour period
• Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment
• Champion safety, compliance, and quality control

All you need is:

• Graduation from an accredited school of cytology
• Cytotechnologist certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
• Thinprep Certification, Required
• Surepath Certification, Preferred
• Will possess critical thinking, complex problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills
• Ability to operate general laboratory equipment and have basic computer skills

• 2+ years of laboratory training or experience
