Job summary

Trinity Health in Michigan seeks a Cytotechnologist for a part-time daytime role in the Ann Arbor/Livonia area. Responsibilities include accessioning, preparing cytology specimens, and initial slide evaluation across body sites. 8-hour days on Tue and Thu with flexible additional hours per pay period.

Required education includes graduation from an accredited cytotechnology program and ASCP certification preferred. 1–3 years cytology experience preferred. Competitive benefits apply from Day One.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of cytotechnology or equivalent.
• ASCP certification preferred; eligibility acceptable per criteria.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in laboratory preparatory techniques for cytology specimens.
• Identify suboptimal specimens and advise corrective actions.
• Collect, accession, and prepare GYN, Non-GYN, and FNA samples.
• Maintain quality control and lab records under supervision.
• Microscopically evaluate slides for cancer, infection, etc.
• Mark abnormal cells and present findings to Pathologist.
• Contribute to monthly cytology lab statistics.
• File and pull slides for conferences or reviews.
• Document interpretation results for each case examined.

Job description

Employment Type: Part time Shift: Day Shift Description: Cytotechnologist

Status: Part time, 20 hours a week

Shift: 8 hour days (7:30am-4pm) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, additional 8 hours throughout the pay period are flexible

Location: Ann Arbor and Livonia

Th Cytotechnologist performs all necessary laboratory procedures pertaining to accessioning, technical preparation of cytologic specimens and initial evaluation of prepared slides from all body sites.

Required Education

• Have graduated from a school of cytotechnology accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent.

• Certified in cytotechnology by a certification agency approved by HHS (ASCP preferred).

Experience

• 1-3 years cytology experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge

• Demonstrates a mastery of the theories, principles and techniques involved in the area of specialization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Demonstrates proficiency and understanding of all laboratory preparatory techniques necessary to produce cytologic specimens, including smears, and cell blocks.

• Able to recognize and advise for corrective actions on sub optimally processed/prepared specimens.

• Collects, accessions, and prepares GYN, Non Gyn, and FNA specimens.

• Maintains quality control and maintenance records within the cytology lab section under direction of the Section Leader and/or Manager.

• Evaluates all GYN, Non GYN, and FNA cytologic slides microscopically to determine the presence of cancer cells, infectious organisms, etc.

• Identifies and marks all abnormal cells and presents these findings to a Pathologist for final evaluation.

• Participates in the maintenance of the monthly cytology lab statistics.

• Files and/or pulls slides for slide conferences, old case review, etc.

• Document slide interpretation results for each gyn and non-gyn cytology case examined or reviewed.
