Job summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Cytoprep Technician III in West Hills, CA, Tue-Sat, 2:00 AM–10:30 AM. Pay range $21.80–$23.85/hour with 10% second-shift and 15% third-shift differentials; bonus potential discussed during offer.

Role involves accessioning, processing Non-Gyn and Surepath specimens, staining, QC, safety logs, and training new staff. Qualified candidates may have 3+ years in Anatomic Pathology; a high school diploma or equivalent is required, and state licensure may be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Current state licensure, if applicable (Required).
• 3 years of Anatomic Pathology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accessions and processes Non-Gyn specimens and/or Surepath specimens for microscopic evaluation.
• Assign accession numbers and perform Thin Prep and Surepath processing.
• Run stainers, change reagents, and coverslip preparations.
• Prepare specimens for CT/NG testing and render gross descriptions.
• Maintain inventories and ensure supplies are ordered.
• Follow safety policies and complete QC, safety and maintenance logs daily.
• Train new Cytoprep technicians in cytopreparation techniques.
• Disposites and labels biohazard waste; identify TIQ’s and problem specimens.
• Collaborate with other departments and colleagues to solve problems.
• Ensure accurate specimen identification and processing.

Pay range: $21.80 - $23.85 / hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Under general supervision, the position is proficient in all of the functions required of the Cytopreparatory Technician II. They are directly responsible for decision making, interacting, and reporting to the Cytology Prep Team Leader/Supervisor and/or Manager.

Responsibilities

• All job accountabilities and duties required of the Cytopreparatory Technician II.
• Accessions and processes Non-Gyn specimens and/or Surepath specimens for microscopic evaluation.
• This includes assigning accession numbers, Thin Prep Processing, Surepath processing,
• running the stainers, changing reagents, and coverslipping.
• Prepares specimens for CT/NG testing.
• Must render a gross description of all Non-Gyn specimens.
• Responsible for assuring that all inventories are complete and appropriate supplies are ordered.
• Follows all local, Business Unit and corporate safety policies and assures compliance of the Cytology Prep Lab.
• Responsible for the completion of all quality control, safety, and preventative maintenance logs on a daily basis.
• Trains new Cyto Prep techs in proper Cytopreparation techniques and accessioning procedures.
• Disposes and labels biohazard waste appropriately.
• General problem solving
• Will also identify TIQ’s and problem specimens.
• Maintains specimen identification and integrity throughout all processes of the department.
• Must begin and complete all assignments with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to collaborate with other departments, colleagues, and clients in problem-solving.
• Able to differentiate acceptable and unacceptable processing and staining of specimens.
• Data entry skills.
• Must have great attention to details and the ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
• All other duties as assigned.

Preferred Work Experience

• 3 years of Anatomic Pathology experience preferred.
• Anatomic Pathology experience is desirable but not required.

Physical And Mental Requirements

• Finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Handling of specimens and supplies.
• Large amounts of standing, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching. Lifts and carries objects up to 30 lbs.
• Work in a chemical environment.
• Risk of exposure to infectious materials and the possibility of injury due to chemicals.

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
