Cytology/Histology Laboratory Technician

University of Maryland Medical System

The Cytology/Histology Laboratory Technician works under the direct supervision of anatomical pathology management. Responsibilities include retrieving and accessioning anatomic pathology specimens and preparing fluid and tissue specimens for evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Retrieve surgical pathology and cytology specimens from designated locations.
2. Accession cytopathology and/or surgical pathology specimens.
3. Verify the accuracy of specimen labeling and resolve discrepancies.
4. Answer phone calls and respond to customer inquiries and requests.
5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• One year of laboratory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills required.
