Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Histotechnician Jr to perform basic laboratory support tasks such as data recording, receiving, labeling, and storing laboratory supplies. Responsibilities include specimen reception, tracking documentation, disposal, preparing solutions, and archiving materials, with training to assist in histopathology.

Qualifications require a high school diploma or equivalent and fluent English. The role involves some heavy lifting and exposure to hazardous substances.

Qualifications

• Highschool graduate or equivalent.
• Equipment used includes analytical laboratory equipment, laboratory processing equipment, and hospital and laboratory information systems.
• Experience with this equipment is not necessary.
• Able to read, write and speak fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Register and accession specimens using the hospital and laboratory information systems; computer experience and good typing skills are necessary.
• Label and handles specimens in accordance with laboratory standards, and policies of using laboratory and hospital information systems.
• Assist the pathologist and/or his designate with the setup, performance, and documentation of grossing procedures, utilizing the laboratory information system and the hospital information system as required.
• Prepare the histopathology specimens for evaluation according to department procedures. Trains and assists with some technical duties in Histopathology.
• Maintains files of reports, diagnoses, correspondence, slides, documentation, and appropriate forms, and is able to retrieve such information routinely.

Able to read, write and speak fluent English. Some heavy lifting and frequent lifting of weights up to 50 lbs. May be subjected to noise and disagreeable odors and will work with hazardous substances such as chemical and infectious biological materials.
