Job summary

Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit Main Campus is seeking a Med Lab Technician - Cytology for a 40-hour Evening shift. Under supervision, you will perform a range of cytology and related laboratory procedures, operate instruments, and ensure data accuracy.

Required education includes an Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent, with certification (MLT) desired. Work involves phlebotomy, quality control, and adherence to safety and confidentiality policies.

Qualifications

• Completion of an Associate Degree Program in Medical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Science is required.
• MLT certification from ASCP or NCA is desired or completion of a military technician program that meets CLIA requirements.
• An Associates or Bachelor’s degree that includes at least 5 specified college courses (Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) or equivalent coursework.

Responsibilities

• Performs select chemical, cytologic, hematologic, histologic, immunologic, microscopic, morphologic, microbiologic, and/or specimen procedures per defined protocols.
• Operates instruments and information systems; recognizes implausible results or malfunctions and escalates as needed.
• Performs preventive maintenance, quality control, calibration, and limited troubleshooting on laboratory equipment and information systems.
• Adheres to departmental and institutional policies including safety, confidentiality and infection control.
• Participates in quality improvement, proficiency testing, data gathering for quality assurance, and competency assessments.

Education

Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology / Laboratory Science

MLT certification (ASCP or NCA) desired

Additional degree with required coursework (Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.)
