Obsolete Site seeks a supervisor to manage daily operations of a childcare program within the Army NAF framework at Joint Base Lewis–McChord. The role reports to the Director, with minimal supervision, and ensures safety, regulatory compliance, and quality service to children and families.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, performance appraisals, leave approvals, and implementing DoD certification and accreditation requirements.

  • This position has been identified as having regular contact with children under the age of 18. In accordance with Section 231 of the Crime Control Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-647 codified at 34 U.S.C.
  • 20351) and DoD Instruction 1402.05
  • Favorably adjudicated background checks are required.
  • Position is subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth.
  • Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.
  • Must complete all DoD and Service training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certifications.
  • Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • The incumbent is required to have mobility necessary to ensure safety of children and youth and engage in repetitive actions such as walking, standing, bending, stooping, and sitting on the floor.
  • The incumbent must have the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, to comply with sight and sound supervision requirements and to provide immediate responses when applicable.
  • Tour of duty may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Majority of the work is performed in the CYS facility, including classroom settings, activity areas, and outdoor areas, with occasional indoor and outdoor field trips.
  • Travel to on and off post locations required.

A Qualified Candidate Must Possess The Following

Education:

  • For positions in Child Development Facilities: The education must have been in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as directly related behavioral science.
OR One Of The Following
Combination of education and experience as stated below in Option 1 & 2:

Option 1:

Education: 24 semester hours in the majors stated above or a related field (see above), plus appropriate experience.

Experience: Candidate must also possess all of the following:

  • 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child growth/youth development of which 6 months must be in a supervisory position.
  • The McCormick Credential.
OR

Option 2: A combination of education and experience:

Education: 24 semester hours in the majors stated above or a related field (see above), plus appropriate experience.

Experience: Candidate must also possess all of the following:

  • At least 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child growth/youth development of which 12 months must be in a supervisory position.
