Summary

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Food Service Worker position is to perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP. This position is located in a Child Development Center (CDC) but may assist with food preparation for the School Age Care (SAC) Program.

Duties

The CYP Food Service Worker performs various tasks in food service preparation, including:

  • Assisting in food preparation such as peeling potatoes, cutting, sorting, and washing vegetables and fruits, assembling sandwiches, and measuring ingredients.
  • Stocking food service carts with utensils, plates, bowls, food, and beverages for family-style dining.
  • Wrapping, arranging, and packaging items for children and youth.
  • Transporting food from kitchen to classrooms or activity areas.
  • Returning carts, dishes, and leftovers to the kitchen and disposing of waste.
Kitchen Maintenance
  • Washing pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and silverware according to sanitation regulations.
  • Cleaning serving carts, food prep areas, cupboards, and dishwashing areas.
  • Operating and cleaning mechanical dishwashers and other equipment.
  • Performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks in kitchen and food service areas.
Food Storage
  • Labeling and dating items in refrigerators and freezers, storing leftovers per standards.
  • Storing canned, boxed, and frozen items.
  • Unloading food and supplies from deliveries.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Complying with security, fire, and sanitation rules and policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program standards.
  • Serving as a mandatory reporter for child abuse and neglect cases.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Must complete background checks, pass a physical, provide immunization evidence, and be free of communicable diseases. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, reside within 50 miles of 32212, and meet security clearance requirements are necessary. Applicants must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

Experience with food handling, personal hygiene, safe work procedures, measuring ingredients, and basic arithmetic is required. Knowledge of diet principles, sanitation standards, and skills in recipe development and food quality evaluation are essential. Effective communication skills in English are also necessary.

Education

H.S. Diploma or equivalent. Submission of diploma or transcripts is required.
