Summary

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Food Service Worker position is to perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP. This position is located in a Child Development Center (CDC) but may assist with food preparation for the School Age Care (SAC) Program.

Duties

The CYP Food Service Worker performs various tasks in food service preparation, including:

  • Assisting in food preparation, such as peeling potatoes, washing vegetables and fruits, assembling sandwiches, and measuring ingredients.
  • Stocking food service carts with utensils, plates, bowls, food, and beverages.
  • Wrapping, arranging, and packaging items for children and youth.
  • Transporting food from kitchen to classrooms or activity areas.
  • Returning carts, dishes, and leftovers to the kitchen and disposing of waste.
Kitchen Maintenance
  • Washing pots, pans, dishes, and utensils in accordance with sanitation regulations.
  • Cleaning serving carts and food preparation areas.
  • Operating and maintaining dishwashing equipment.
  • Performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks and maintaining a clean work area.
Food Storage
  • Labeling and storing leftovers properly.
  • Unloading food and supplies from deliveries.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Adhering to security, fire, and sanitation policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program standards.
  • Reporting suspected child abuse or neglect as mandated.
Requirements

Must pass background checks, fingerprint checks, and a State Criminal History Repository check. Must pass a physical exam, immunizations, and maintain security clearance. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical activities. Must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

Experience and knowledge in food handling, hygiene, safety procedures, and basic arithmetic. Ability to develop recipes, evaluate food quality, and communicate effectively in English.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Submission of diploma or transcripts required when applying.
