Job description

Cylinder Hydrotest Manager Trainee (Fire Extinguishers)

Location: Memphis, TN

The Cylinder Hydrotest Manager Trainee must be focused, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. The candidate should be able to work independently and in a team environment, enjoy working with hands-on tasks, be mechanically inclined, follow written and verbal instructions, and be proficient with the latest technology. Accuracy and precision in following procedures and regulatory processes are mandatory.

The candidate will undergo a training program that includes learning to examine, test, and maintain compressed gas cylinders, including those used in beverage, scuba, and fire extinguishers, per DOT and NFPA specifications. Upon completion, the candidate will begin safe testing and maintenance of compressed gas cylinders, which may include delivery. The candidate must demonstrate a competent understanding of NFPA codes, manufacturer standards, and DOT 49 CFR guidelines.

The candidate must be in good physical condition, as the job demands are physical. This position will be based in Memphis.

Job Duties:
  1. Perform low-pressure hydro testing on cylinders per manufacturer, NFPA, and DOT specifications.
  2. Perform high-pressure hydro testing on cylinders per manufacturer, NFPA, and DOT specifications.
  3. Recharge dry chemical, wet chemical, clean agent, and CO2 cylinders per standards.
  4. Conduct 6-year maintenance on dry chemical fire extinguishers as per standards.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of DOT exemptions CFR 49 Section 173.34, CGA pamphlets, and comply with safety policies.
  6. Complete documentation and data entry related to testing, inspection, and repair accurately and timely.
  7. Communicate with technicians regarding test completions.
  8. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  9. Troubleshoot equipment, perform minor maintenance, and routine inspections.
  10. Provide excellent customer service, sell extinguishers, and perform services as needed.
  11. Willingness to work extended hours and weekends.
  12. Operate forklift and company vehicle for loading/unloading and deliveries.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Exposures:
  • Lift up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
  • Push and pull over 100 pounds as needed.
  • Climb ladders, reach heights of at least 12 ft.
  • Stand, walk, handle items for 5-8 hours per shift.
  • Handle chemicals safely, MSDS available.
