Job summary

Hendrick Automotive Group in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Cylinder Head Technician to teardown and clean cylinder heads and components post-race under the supervision of the Cylinder Head Shop Manager. The role requires strong mechanical skills and a solid understanding of internal combustion engines.

The ideal candidate will measure valve seat wear, install and hone valve guides, and mill heads to correct chamber volumes, while maintaining safety, accuracy, and timely communication with the shop

Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical skills and a sound understanding of internal combustion engines.
  • Experience building race engines is preferred.
  • Experience with teardown and inspection of engine components is desirable.

Summary

Under the general direction of the Cylinder Head Shop Manager, the Cylinder Head Technician is responsible for teardown and cleanup of cylinder heads and components post-race.

Responsibilities
  • Teardown, inspect and cleanup cylinder heads and components post-race
  • Measure valve seat wear and valve guide clearance
  • Data entry
  • Open work orders
  • Install & hone valve guides
  • Mill cylinder heads to correct chamber volume
  • Inspect & rate valve springs
  • Any other duties assigned by manager

Education & Experience

Ideally has experience building race engines. Requires working knowledge of basic mechanical skills and competencies. Must possess a sound understanding of internal combustion engines.

Requires basic computer skills.

Must possess strong communication skills and an excellent sense of customer satisfaction, communicating with other departments, and perform work as timely and precisely as possible.

Physical Demands

Requires vision (near, distance, depth) and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – safety glasses. Constantly manually manipulates. Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds. Occasionally reaches above shoulder, climbs, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.
