Job summary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Cyclotron Health Physicist within the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) department. The role focuses on proactive radiation safety programs for the cyclotron, BRIC and related facilities, reporting to the Radiation Safety Officer and supporting emergency response.

Requires MS in Health Physics or related field, with 5 years health physics experience or 3 years accelerator experience; certification (HP/NRRPT/ABHP/ABR) preferred.

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Health Physics or related scientific discipline.
• Bachelor's degree in related field and five (5) years health physics experience (or three years of specific particle accelerator experience) may be considered in lieu of a master's.
• Certification in Health Physics or NRRP T or ABHP/ABR will be credited as experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage radiation safety programs for cyclotron operations, BRIC, and non-hospital x-ray facilities.
• Review dosimetry data for cyclotron employees and analyze trends.
• Support the cyclotron engineer with dosimetry and effluent release programs and X-ray registration/inspection activities.
• Assist with emergency response planning and incident investigations involving radioactive materials and ionizing radiation.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and participate in broader EHS safety programs.
