Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Cybersecurity Range Engineer to design, implement, and sustain advanced cyber training environments for USCYBERCOM collaboration. The role requires hands-on Windows and Linux, virtualized infrastructures, and various cybersecurity tools, with the ability to troubleshoot complex scenarios under pressure.

The candidate will build range content, support exercises, and ensure operational design and documentation for repeatable event delivery across the CYBER TRIDENT program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline; 8 years of experience or 6 years substituting for degree.
• Experience with Windows and Linux, VMware, and virtualized infrastructures.
• Experience with CNO/CNE/CND platforms, cyber training, and CPT coordination.
• Security certs: TS/SCI with CI polygraph if required; DoD 8570 IAT II (Security+, CCNA Security, CISSP).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain cyber range content (VMs, networks, tooling, exercises).
• Plan and execute cybersecurity training, mission rehearsal, and validation in range environments.
• Operate offensive/defensive training content and incident handling within range enclaves.
• Provide event support: readiness checks, access, troubleshooting, and status communication.
• Develop runbooks, build notes, diagrams, and after-action inputs for repeatable delivery.

The Cyber Range Engineer will design, implement, and maintain advanced cyber training environments. Responsibilities Include:

• Cyber Range Expertise: Build and configure cyber range content (virtual machines, virtual networks, accounts/roles, tooling, and exercise injects) to meet event objectives and scenario design.
• Cyber Exercises and Operations: Support the planning, building, and execution of cybersecurity training, mission rehearsal, and validation events within cyber range environments.
• Operational Design: Implement and operate offensive and defensive training content, including red cell tools, defensive sensors, and supporting applications, under established design guidance. Deliver virtual infrastructure and network support (VMware, routing/switching constructs, DNS, TCP/IP), including diagnosing connectivity and performance issues across range enclaves.
• Network Administration: Provide event support during execution windows, including environment readiness checks, user access support, troubleshooting, and rapid issue resolution. Coordinate with content developers, exercise staff, and stakeholders to capture requirements, track tasks, and communicate status, risks, and impacts.
• Technical Expertise: Configure and maintain Windows and Linux hosts used in training environments, including patching, baseline configuration, and restoration of lab state as required. Develop and update technical documentation (build notes, runbooks, diagrams, and after‑action inputs) to support repeatable event delivery and knowledge transfer.

Basic Qualifications:

• Educational Background : Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline such as information technology, computer science, systems or software engineering from an accredited college or university and 8 years of experience. In addition to eight years of relevant work experience, 6 years of additional relevant experience can be substituted for degree.
• Virtual Networking and Cloud Infrastructure: Working knowledge and hands‑on experience in both Windows and Linux operating system environments. Experience working with VMware and supporting systems within virtualized environments. Relevant networking engineering certification; Relevant Cloud/VMware certification; Relevant certification in RedHat/Linux/Windows.
• Network Expertise: 5+ years of combined experience with Computer Network Operations (CNO)/ Computer Network Exploitation (CNE)/ Computer Network Defense (CND) platforms, cyber training, validation exercises, and working with cyber protection teams (CPTs), including planning, coordinating, and execution.
• Security and Certifications: Must have TS/SCI with the ability to successfully pass a CI polygraph if requested, current DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CISSP).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with or experience supporting the Joint Event Life Cycle (JELC).
• Experience supporting cyber training and validation exercises, including planning, coordination, and execution with Cyber Protection Teams (CPTs).
• Experience using SIEMs, intrusion detection systems, or threat intelligence platforms to support cybersecurity operations.
• Experience using scripting or automation tools to streamline cybersecurity operations or environment setup.
