Cyber Range Software Engineer – Job Overview

Leidos is seeking a Cyber Range Software Engineer to support Cyber Security Defensive Operations within the Intelligence Sector’s Cyber & Analytics Business Area. The engineer will configure and maintain cyber ranges comprised of 100s to 1000s of virtual machines using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform, Ansible, VMware and related automation technologies. The role collaborates closely with Hunt, Red, and Blue Team operators, training and force‑on‑force teams, and works with software engineers, system administrators, network engineers, and systems engineers to develop innovative solutions. Additionally, the engineer will support the Cyber Security Directorate’s Defensive Network Operations organization.

Responsibilities

• Configure cyber range environments using IaC, Terraform, Ansible, VMware, and other automation tools.
• Collaborate with Hunt, Red, and Blue Team operators to gather requirements and implement desired cybersecurity configurations.
• Design and develop solutions to support training, force‑on‑force exercises, and emulation of customer infrastructures.
• Work with cross‑functional teams (software engineers, system administrators, network engineers, systems engineers) to maintain and enhance the cyber range.
• Provide direct mission support to the Defensive Network Operations organization when not engaged in cyber‑range tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus eight (8) years of relevant experience, or master’s degree plus six (6) years of relevant experience.
• Associate’s degree plus ten (10) years of relevant experience, or high school diploma/GED plus twelve (12) years of relevant experience, may be considered for in‑depth related experience.
• Computer Science (CS) degree or related field.
• Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Batch, and Python.
• Experience with networking and virtualization.
• Experience with Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience with cybersecurity tools, network configurations, and operational tools.
• Knowledge of operating systems (Windows and Linux), application behaviors, and network traffic analysis.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment with flexible customer requirements.

Preferred / Additional Experience

• Agile development methodology and DevOps practices.
• Container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
• Penetration testing or red‑team operations knowledge.
• Experience with Splunk.
• Experience with Nutanix.
• Defensive Cyber Security Operations.

Security Clearance

Active TS/SCI with Polygraph required.

Pay Range

$107,900.00 – $195,050.00
