Job summary

The New York State Department of Financial Services seeks a Deputy Superintendent for Cybersecurity Law & Policy to lead the Division’s unit and drive policy initiatives aligned with Part 500.

Under the Executive Deputy Superintendent, you will manage attorneys, develop guidance, and coordinate with counsel while advancing education and enforcement efforts within DFS. Appointment is exempt and salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Admission to a state bar, in good standing, for at least 14 years, and admission to the NYS bar within one year.
• At least 8 years of specialized experience in cybersecurity/privacy law, regulatory compliance, or investigations/enforcement.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to write clearly on complex issues.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity and information technology concepts.

Responsibilities

• Leads and manages a team of attorneys and staff in the Cybersecurity Law and Policy Unit.
• Leads policy initiatives to promote compliance with Part 500.
• Drafts and contributes to cybersecurity guidance, alerts, and advisories for DFS entities.
• Facilitates external seminars and speaking engagements with trade associations and stakeholders on Part 500 and DFS work.
• Oversees legal research and analysis related to legal and policy recommendations.
• Assists with cybersecurity-related investigations, enforcement actions, and drafting/negotiating agreements with regulated entities.
• Oversees revisions to Part 500 and the regulatory amendment process.
• Develops and maintains policies for the Cybersecurity Law & Policy Unit and Division.
• Coordinates with the Office of General Counsel and other Department staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
