Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer II to protect the hospital's digital infrastructure, clinical systems, and patient data. The role focuses on deploying and managing security tools, monitoring threats, and supporting regulatory compliance in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Collaborating with IT, clinical, and admin teams, you will strengthen the hospital's security posture and provide guidance to junior staff while contributing to enterprise risk management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of cybersecurity engineering or IT security operations experience.
• Experience implementing and managing network security solutions.
• Experience with cloud security platforms (Azure, AWS).
• Experience with endpoint protection and vulnerability management.
• Familiarity with incident response procedures.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative healthcare environment.
• Professional security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or equivalent.
• Prior experience supporting healthcare IT environments.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain cybersecurity tools including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and SIEM platforms.
• Monitor activity for threats and respond to security incidents.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and support penetration testing.
• Remediate vulnerabilities and support risk mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, NIST, and internal policies.
• Maintain security documentation, incident reports, and records.
• Suggest improvements to security architecture and processes.
• Support cross-functional IT initiatives and hospital cybersecurity programs.
• Provide guidance to junior staff and project teams.
• Participate in cybersecurity awareness and training.
