Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer II to protect the hospital’s digital infrastructure, clinical systems, and patient data. You will deploy and manage security tools, monitor threats, and support regulatory compliance.

The role collaborates with IT, clinical, and administrative teams to strengthen security posture while enabling secure, reliable healthcare delivery. A Bachelor's in a related field and 3–5 years of security experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of cybersecurity engineering or IT security operations experience.
  • Experience implementing and managing network security solutions.
  • Experience with cloud security platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Experience with endpoint protection and vulnerability management.
  • Familiarity with incident response procedures.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain cybersecurity tools including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and SIEM platforms.
  • Monitor network and system activity for potential threats and respond to security incidents.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and support penetration testing activities.
  • Remediate security vulnerabilities and support enterprise risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards including HIPAA, NIST, and internal security policies.
  • Maintain security documentation, incident reports, and compliance records.
  • Recommend improvements to security architecture and operational processes.
  • Support cross-functional IT initiatives and hospital cybersecurity programs.
  • Provide guidance and technical direction to junior cybersecurity staff and project teams.
  • Participate in cybersecurity awareness and training initiatives across the organization.
