Job summary

The City of New York is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer (ICS/OT Security) to safeguard critical municipal ICS/OT environments. The role supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of security controls for ICS/OT, including SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, and other industrial devices.

You will collaborate with engineers, operators, and city agencies to strengthen network architectures, monitor threats, and conduct risk assessments in an ever‑evolving security landscape.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 4+ years of full-time experience in cybersecurity or ICS/OT security.
• Experience with risk assessments and security controls in industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and maintenance of security controls for ICS/OT environments (SCADA, PLCs, RTUs).
• Help implement secure network architectures including segmentation and firewall configurations.
• Assist in incident investigation and response for ICS environments.
• Support risk assessments, vulnerability evaluations, and compliance reviews (NIST SP 800-82, ISA/IEC 62443).
• Maintain documentation, asset inventories, network diagrams, and baselines for ICS/OT.
• Provide technical guidance to city personnel operating ICS/OT systems.
• Contribute to training and awareness programs on industrial security best practices.
• Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.

About Cyber Command. Cyber Command is charged with protecting all City systems against cyber threats, including systems that deliver vital services to New Yorkers. Headed by the Chief Information Security Officer of the City of New York, we provide in-depth support to over 100 agencies and offices to protect, detect, identify, respond to, and recover from cyber threats.

Job Description. The Cybersecurity Engineer (ICS/OT Security) will play a key supporting role in safeguarding the secure operation of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) used in critical municipal infrastructure. The role involves assisting in the implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of security controls that protect essential public services, including water systems, energy distribution, transportation networks, and public safety operations. This position offers a valuable opportunity to build technical expertise in industrial cybersecurity while receiving structured mentorship and working collaboratively with technical staff, engineering personnel, system operators, and city agencies.

Responsibilities will include:

• Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of security controls for industrial control systems and operational technology environments, including SCADA systems, PLCs, RTUs, and related industrial devices.
• Support the development and configuration of secure network architectures, including network segmentation, firewall configurations, secure remote access capabilities, and monitoring solutions.
• Support the investigation and response to security incidents involving industrial control systems.
• Assist in conducting risk assessments, vulnerability evaluations, and compliance reviews in accordance with applicable standards (such as NIST SP 800-82 and ISA/IEC 62443).
• Assist in maintaining comprehensive documentation, asset inventories, network diagrams, and system baselines for industrial control systems/operational technology environments.
• Provide technical guidance and support to city personnel responsible for operating and maintaining industrial control systems/operational technology systems.
• Contribute to training and awareness programs related to industrial security best practices.
• Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.

HOURS/SHIFT

Day - Due to the necessary technical duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.
