Overview

Cybersecurity Engineer

We support customers with Centers of Excellence in Washington DC, Huntsville, AL, and Burlington, MA, with an additional 36 locations across the U.S.

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Cybersecurity Engineer to support the Air Operations Center (AOC) program, within the USAF Kessel Run (KR) Division, located at Langley AFB, VA.

This role focuses on cybersecurity and serves as the Program Office's information security professional, responsible for conducting information system security engineering activities and ensuring security is integrated into the AOC WS security architecture in accordance with government requirements. The role involves providing cybersecurity technical guidance on principles such as Authentication, Non-Repudiation, Least Privilege, Defense in Depth, Risk Management, and Network Security to support the AOC ISSM.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical point of contact and subject matter expert for ISSO-related matters.
  • Complete security assessments on the AOC WS development suites and prepare final security assessment reports, including technical recommendations for STIGs and ACAS findings.
  • Provide technical input, recommendations, and assistance with cybersecurity approaches, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Assess proposed changes to information systems and their environments that could affect system authorization.
  • Design, develop, and configure information systems for the AOC WS ISSM, including upgrading legacy systems.
  • Implement security requirements for information systems using best practices, including secure design and coding techniques.
  • Apply technical and analytical skills to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems assets, maintaining compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Manage architecture, design, and management of network security technologies; participate in network and system design to ensure security policies are implemented.
  • Support LAN/WAN security solutions, create and maintain security standards and documentation.
  • Develop new security applications and hardware as assigned.
  • Lead network security assessments and risk analyses, proposing enhancements.
  • Stay updated on cybersecurity developments, recommend solutions, and manage technology integration.
  • Develop and enforce network security policies, conduct system audits, and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Participate in network and system design to ensure security policies are followed.
  • Investigate firewall issues, monitor security logs, and respond to threats.
  • Maintain documentation of firewall configurations and network diagrams.
  • Review vulnerability alerts related to Palo Alto products and develop remediation plans.
Qualifications
  • Must be a US citizen with an active security clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree with 7-10 years of experience, including 5 years in DoD.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, RMF, vulnerability management, and STIGs.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with Cross Domain Solutions, Cloud Service Models, Supply Chain Security, NIAP, DoD cybersecurity policies, Network Security, Endpoint security, DoD Impact Levels, NSA Type 1 encryption, and working with CSSP - 16th AF.
