Job summary

The City of Cedar Hill, TX is seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst to strengthen its security posture, manage risk, and lead day-to-day cybersecurity operations.

The role will monitor SIEM and MDR platforms, review threats, maintain security dashboards, and support identity protection across Microsoft 365 and Defender while ensuring CJIS compliance and security best practices. Collaborate with IT staff to ensure secure solutions and participate in audits and training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity/IT/CS or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant cybersecurity experience.
  • Local government experience preferred.
  • Active continuing education and related certifications encouraged.
  • CJIS clearance eligibility required or pursued.

Job description

The City of Cedar Hill, TX seeks a Cybersecurity Analyst to strengthen cybersecurity posture, manage security risk, and lead day-to-day cybersecurity operations.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor security events, alerts, and investigations generated by the City’s SIEM and Managed Detection and Response (MDR) platforms.
  • Analyze indicators of compromise, suspicious activity, reported security incidents, and escalate critical incidents to IT management and external security partners when needed.
  • Maintain security dashboards, reports, and metrics.
  • Coordinate incident response activities and document investigations, findings, and remediation actions.
  • Administer and monitor security controls for Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Review and maintain user accounts, security groups, and role-based access controls.
  • Monitor and investigate privileged account activity.
  • Implement and manage multi-factor authentication, conditional access, and identity protection policies.
  • Support account provisioning and deprovisioning processes.
  • Administer and maintain security posture across Microsoft 365, including Microsoft Defender, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and related security compliance tools.
  • Investigate, respond to, and remediate phishing, malware, suspicious account activity, and unauthorized access attempts while enforcing security best practices and policies.
  • Manage and monitor email security platforms to detect, investigate, and remediate phishing, impersonation, account takeover, and other email-based threats.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and review threat intelligence to identify risks across systems, networks, and applications; coordinate timely remediation.
  • Support security audits, penetration testing, and risk management by tracking corrective actions and validating control effectiveness.
  • Support compliance with CJIS, applicable regulations, security standards, and City cybersecurity policies via audits, risk assessments, and documentation management.
  • Deliver cybersecurity awareness training, phishing simulations, and security education programs.
  • Maintain cybersecurity incident records, security policies, and recovery procedures; assist with business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Provide guidance to employees and departments on cybersecurity best practices, risk reduction, and reporting security threats.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, department stakeholders, vendors, and managed security providers to evaluate and maintain secure technology solutions, ensuring cybersecurity requirements are included in infrastructure, applications, and City projects.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance to support timely monitoring, response, and coverage for critical technology and cybersecurity operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in cybersecurity, information security, systems administration, or network administration.
  • Local government experience strongly preferred.
  • Continuing education in cyber security that results in related certification(s) required.
  • Certifications eligible for consideration: Microsoft Certifications, Cybersecurity Certifications, Fortinet Certifications, Cisco Certified Network Associate, or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License, meeting City driving standards.
  • Must be eligible for and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) clearance.
