Job summary

University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a General Associate to support the Cyber Warrior Diversity Program for critical infrastructure security. You will help run non-credit workshops and trainings, focusing on ICS/OT security and industrial automation, in collaboration with faculty.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and 3 years of relevant experience; preferred items cover PLC programming, Siemens TIA Portal, SCADA, and network device

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, cybersecurity, computer science, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
  • Preferred: PLC programming experience, SCADA software, and knowledge of network devices.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate non‑credit continuing education workshops and seminars for certifications (A+, Network+, Security+) and ICS/OT security.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Title: General Associate, Cyber Warrior Diversity Program for Critical Infrastructure: Industrial Control System (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) Security

Employer: University of Maryland Eastern Shore, School of Business, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Technology, and Tourism Management

Appointment: Temporary, funded contractual appointment; reports to Cyber Warrior Diversity Program Director.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate non‑credit continuing education workshops and seminars to support student achievement of CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications, as well as training in Industrial Control System (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) security.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, cybersecurity, computer science, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands‑on experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ladder logic or function block programmable logic controller (PLC) programming.
  • Experience designing, configuring, and uploading PLC programs in the Siemens TIA portal or a similar vendor.
  • Experience using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software.
  • Experience configuring and managing basic network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve common computer network issues in a lab environment.
  • Ability to design and deliver technical training sessions and workshops for students and faculty.
  • Three (3) years of experience in industrial automation, control systems, or OT/ICS/cybersecurity environments.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C/C++ programming.
  • CompTIA Network+ and/or Security+ certification (or equivalent vendor/industry certifications such as CCNA, GICSP).
Physical Demands
  • Extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, and sitting at a desk.
  • May require lifting.
  • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.
  • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.

  • Organizational and time‑management principles.
  • Project management – planning, coordinating, tracking progress, and ensuring successful completion of initiatives within established timelines.
  • Verbal and written communication to convey information, prepare correspondence, and interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Analysis of complex information, identification of issues, and evaluation of options.
  • Independent work with minimal supervision.
  • High level of attention to detail.
Benefits & Compensation

Salary: $70,000 to $90,000 per annum.

Benefits:

  • Health Insurance – participation in State Health Insurance Program and prescription plans; additional supplemental retirement plans per state regulations.
  • Annual Leave – Five (5) days of accrued annual leave.
  • Sick Leave – Three (3) days of accrued sick leave.
  • Holidays – Eight (8) holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
