Job summary

Fiber Materials Inc. in Maine seeks an experienced Cyber Security Specialist to secure and oversee information systems in line with NIST and CMMC standards.

This on-site role focuses on implementing security policies, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating with IT and other departments to safeguard critical assets. You will perform ISSM/ISSO duties, manage incident response, train staff, and develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security/Information Systems or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of cybersecurity experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
  • Proficiency with security assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of network and system security, IDS/IPS, and incident response.
  • Effective communication with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity policies aligned with NIST and CMMC.
  • Conduct regular security assessments, audits, and vulnerability testing.
  • Monitor and respond to cybersecurity incidents with remediation.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments for secure systems.

FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.

Your role: FMI is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Specialist to join our dynamic team. As the Cyber Security Specialist, you will ensure the security and compliance of our information systems in alignment with NIST and CMMC standards. You will also be responsible for implementing and managing cyber security policies, procedures, and protocols to safeguard our digital assets and infrastructure. Please keep in mind this role is needed onsite and is NOT remote.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with NIST and CMMC standards
  • Conduct regular security assessments, audits, and vulnerability testing to identify and mitigate potential risks
  • Monitor and respond to cyber security incidents and breaches, providing timely and effective remediation
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure the secure integration and operation of information systems
  • Perform ISSM/ISSO Duties: Carry out tasks similar to those of an Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) or Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO), including managing security aspects of information systems and maintaining security documentation
  • Conduct risk assessments and annual tabletop exercises to evaluate and improve security measures and incident response plans
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on cybersecurity best practices and protocols
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends in cybersecurity
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on security findings, incidents, and compliance status to management
  • Support the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans
  • Performs other duties as assigned
What we need from you:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security/Information Systems or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a cybersecurity role
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain government security clearance
  • Proficiency in cyber security assessment tools and methodologies
  • Strong understanding of network and system security, intrusion detection and prevention, and incident response
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry developments
Preferred:
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent
  • In-depth knowledge of NIST and CMMC cybersecurity frameworks and standards
