Job summary

Motorola Solutions is seeking enthusiastic interns for its security analytics team in the Chicago area. The role involves hands-on SIEM work, log analysis, and threat-hunting activities across Windows, Linux, and cloud environments.

You will learn to identify anomalous activity, review network traffic, and support incident response efforts under guidance. Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's degree (May 2028 or later) with a strong foundation in networking, forensics, and scripting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required and pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a May 2028 or later graduation date.
• Experience with SIEM tools (Elastic Stack or Splunk) and security log analysis.
• Familiarity with Windows, Linux, iOS, and virtualized environments.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP) and common analysis tools.
• Forensic software (FTK, Autopsy, Volatility) and log review to identify anomalies.
• Endpoint detection tools (Wazuh, Velociraptor, OSSEC, OSQuery, OpenEDR) and IDS/IPS (SNORT or Suricata).
• Email protocol understanding (IMAP, SMTP, POP3) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Ability to script in Python/Java/Go; strong documentation skills.
• Nice to have certifications (CompTIA Network+, Security+), AI/LLM exposure.

Responsibilities

Job Description

We are looking for enthusiastic and creative people with a passion for learning. Specific skills also may include:

• Analytical mindset and a can-do approach to problem-solving

• Hands-on experience with a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) such as Elastic Stack or Splunk

• Knowledge of Windows, Linux, iOS, and virtual environments

• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP protocols; Tools: TCPDump, Wireshark, Nmap)

• Forensic knowledge (FTK, Autopsy, Volatility)

• Review logs to identify unusual behavior in networks and devices

• Endpoint Detection knowledge (Wazuh, Velociraptor, OSSEC, OSQuery, OpenEDR)

• Experience with network-based intrusion detection (IDS/IPS - SNORT or Suricata)

• Understand email protection, investigations (analyze email headers), and protocols (IMAP, SMTP, POP3)

• Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)

• Ability to program and write scripts (Python, Java, Go, or any other modern language)

• Proactive approach and enthusiasm for problem identification and solving

• Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities

• A strong appetite for continuous learning

• Great verbal and written skills, and a willingness to apply them to documentation

Nice to have:

• Training or certifications (CompTIA Network+, Security+)

• Experience or training with AI or LLM

Note: Candidate must be in the Chicago/Schaumburg office 2 days a week.
