Job summary

Southern Company is seeking an Analyst, Backup/Data Protection to support daily operations and continuous improvement of the Cyber Recovery Vault environment. You will manage vault isolation, backups, and recovery testing across Linux, VMware, and Dell data protection platforms.

The role requires strong problem-solving, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills, with after-hours readiness for maintenance windows and recovery exercises.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
• Operational experience supporting enterprise infrastructure operations, backup and recovery platforms, Linux systems, VMware environments, or networked storage environments.
• Working knowledge of backup replication, cyber recovery, disaster recovery, isolated recovery environments, or data protection concepts.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across operating systems, storage, backup, virtualization, and network domains.
• Ability to follow change management, incident management, security, compliance, and documentation standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of documenting procedures and communicating status to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to participate in after-hours support, planned maintenance windows, recovery exercises, and escalation activities.

Responsibilities

• Administer Dell Cyber Recovery Vault infrastructure and recovery components.
• Maintain Dell CyberSense analytics services, including job validation, alert review, and issue escalation.
• Verify vault isolation, air-gap operations, synchronization, and access controls.
• Perform vault health checks, remediation, and readiness reviews.
• Coordinate vault maintenance windows, changes, and recovery tests.
• Maintain recovery runbooks, configuration records, and audit documentation.
• Administer PowerProtect Data Manager, Data Domain replication, NetBackup, and related workflows.
• Monitor backup integrity, replication status, and Cyber Recovery automation.
• Support Linux network config, services, patching, and hardening for recovery infra.
• Deploy and troubleshoot Cyber Recovery VMs and VMware components.
• Configure isolated vault networking, DNS, and firewall rules; ensure secure cross-environment communication.
• Generate operational reports, identify risks, and propose corrective actions.
