Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience; 4+ years in network investigations.
• Experience reading and interpreting signatures (e.g., Snort) and deploying signatures.
• Experience with incident handling methodologies and protocol analyzers.
• Experience collecting data from cyber defense resources and performing packet-level analysis.

Responsibilities

• Characterize and analyze network traffic to identify anomalous activity and potential threats to network resources
• Coordinate with enterprise-wide cyber defense staff to validate network alerts
• Document and elevate incidents including history, status, and potential impact for action
• Perform cyber defense trend analysis and reporting
• Perform event correlation to determine attack effectiveness and situational awareness
• Provide daily summaries of network events and activity relevant to cyber defense practices
• Receive and analyze network alerts from various sources to determine possible causes
• Provide timely detection and alerting of possible attacks and distinguish them from benign activities
• Use cyber defense tools for continuous monitoring and analysis of system activity
• Analyze identified malicious activity to determine weaknesses exploited and effects on systems
• Identify and analyze anomalies in network traffic using metadata
• Validate IDS alerts against network traffic using packet analysis tools
• Identify applications and operating systems of network devices based on traffic
• Reconstruct a malicious attack from network traffic
• Identify OS fingerprinting activities and network mappings
• Assist in signature construction for defense tools against observed threats
