Job summary

GPAC is seeking a skilled Visual Welding Inspector to oversee the inspection of welded joints on poles and heavy structural steel assemblies. The role ensures compliance with detail drawings, AWS and AISC specifications, and supports certification documentation tasks.

The ideal candidate holds a CWI, has 3-5 years of experience in welding heavy steel and inspection, and can read weld symbols and shop drawings with accuracy. Strong communication and independent work ethic are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be a CWI certified welding inspector.
• 3-5 years of experience welding heavy steel assemblies, with some time in inspection.
• Ability to read and understand shop drawings, especially weld symbols.
• Knowledge of AWS and AISC codes.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement techniques desirable.
• Maintain an attitude conducive to progress through positive change and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspection of welded joints at the assigned plant.
• Ensure fabricated steel is welded as planned and meets customer specifications; inspections support workflow and sequence.
• Report and maintain inspection results; prepare customer documentation for certification that quality procedures were followed.
• Perform in-process weld inspections on poles and heavy structural steel assemblies.
• Read project specifications and interpret drawings and standards of moderate complexity; assist in identifying and solving quality non-conformances.
