What You Will Do
The Chemistry and Waste Facility Operations Division Leader (DL) will provide strategic direction for the division including a shared vision with the senior management team on program, capability, and workforce development; and managing resources to meet future needs of the division including long-range budget preparation and justification. The Facility Operations Division Leader position is responsible for managing and maintaining safe, secure, and compliant work environments at facilities enabling efficient and effective mission execution. The DL ensures that the division delivers on programmatic commitments, sets a vision for the future direction of the organization, and coordinates with the Associate Laboratory Director of Weapons Production Directorate (ALDWP) on the needs of the directorate's goals, objectives, and commitments.
The Division Leader is also responsible for strengthening the skill base within the division and setting standards for professional behavior and operational effectiveness. The successful candidate must be results oriented with solid leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills. As a member of the division senior management team, the DL is responsible for promoting safety, security, and quality in all operations; mentoring and developing personnel; promoting teamwork within the division and across the Laboratory; and demonstrating effective leadership behaviors that promote a positive, collaborative work environment. The scope of this position is to provide support and facility availability for Weapons Production Directorate. This position will provide traditional Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and ESH&Q support to tenants and facility personnel.
The CWF DL role will be responsible for overall operations in multiple facilities which support and enable the expanding plutonium production mission which works multiple shifts to meet the national security mission of the United States.
This Manager position is responsible for the Operations and Management of the following six facilities:
- Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Operations (CMR) Facility Haz Cat 2, Nuclear Facility
- Radiological Laboratory/Utility/Office Building (RLUOB), Nuclear Radiological Facility Cat 3
- Radiological Liquid Waste (RLW) Treatment Facility Haz Cat 3, Nuclear Facility
- Transuranic Waste Facility (TWF) Haz Cat 2 Nuclear Facility
- Radioassay and Nondestructive Testing Facility (RANT) Haz Cat 2 Nuclear Facility
- Waste Characterization, Reduction and Repackaging Facility (WCRRF) Haz Cat 2 Nuclear Facility
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Expert-level knowledge of and demonstrated successful experience in at least two of the following areas: nuclear operations and production facility management, stockpile stewardship and management, life extension programs, pit development, plutonium strategy, pit surveillance, weapon quality, DoD nuclear programs, or civilian nuclear programs.
- Expert knowledge and demonstrated successful experience performing superior Conduct of Operations, with specific examples of helping to ensure that management systems are designed to anticipate and mitigate the consequences of human fallibility or potential latent conditions, and provide a vital barrier to prevent injury, environmental insult or asset damage, and to promote mission success.
- Successful experience in leading a management team in organizational strategic planning initiatives to include establishing, monitoring, and reporting on performance metrics.
- Demonstrated successful experience in providing leadership, supervision, and retention and development of assigned employees including performance management, team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to assign clear authority and accountability, and effectively implementing, directing, and managing change while maintaining efficient operations.
- Demonstrated successful experience integrating priorities and commitments, including safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, contractor assurance, and business imperatives.
- Demonstrated experience leading business operations to include financial, human resources, procurement, and other related business activities.
- In-depth understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, lock-out/tag out and facility policies and procedures.
- In-depth knowledge and experience conducting critiques, root cause analysis, and lessons learned.
- In-depth knowledge of government regulations affecting operations and /or packaging and transportation management.
- DOE Order 426.2 requires BS degree, and four years nuclear experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 15 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE O 426.2: Operations Management requires a Bachelor of Science in engineering or related science, 3 years job-related experience and 2 years nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications:- Demonstrated experience with nuclear materials management, as well as nuclear or radiological facility operations.
- Knowledge of the ALDWP technical, manufacturing portfolio and an understanding of how the operations broadly supports LANL's national security science mission areas including Weapons, Global Security, and Energy Programs.
- Active DOE Q-Clearance.
Work Environment:Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
