POSITION SUMMARY

This position involves selecting and placing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery. Scrubs in and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during procedures.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  1. Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies, ensuring good working order, and reviewing case carts.
  2. Anticipates the surgeon's needs by passing instruments and retracting tissue.
  3. Demonstrates aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout procedures, disposes of sharps and trash, and participates in instrument and sponge counts.
  4. Ensures accuracy of surgeon preference cards and pick lists.
  5. Assists with OR turnover, stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning.
  6. May provide administrative support to the department.
  7. Participates in training and orientation of staff and students, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma/GED and current BLS certification.
  • Registration with State Regulatory Agency if applicable.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
  • Conscientious, organized, and responsive to surgeon and patient needs.
  • Must stay updated with field developments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from a certified surgical technology program or two years OR experience.
  • Additional related education or experience is a plus.
