Job summary

Saint Joseph Health System in Mishawaka, IN is seeking a Surgical Assistant to support operative teams in preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care. The role emphasizes patient safety, adherence to laws and regulations, and alignment with the organization's mission.

Graduate from an accredited surgical assisting program, CSFA/CSA/SA-C certification, and 2 years OR experience are required; experience harvesting leg veins is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited surgical assisting program.
• CSFA, CSA, or SA-C certification required.
• 2 years in operating room as a surgical technologist or current certification.
• Experience harvesting leg veins is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Preoperative: facilitate safe positioning per surgeon's preference and patient limits.
• Intraoperative: assist with incision, exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, and device management.
• Postoperative: apply dressings, assess skin integrity, and assist in patient transfer.
• Support surgical procedures and contribute to performance improvement standards.
• Adhere to patient safety, asepsis, and regulatory requirements throughout care.
