Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care during the patient's hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer‑driven approach. This position performs duties in the Intensive Care Units.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment.
  • Conduct age‑appropriate admission or transfer assessment and involve family/guardian when appropriate.
  • Accurately document findings and outcomes.
  • Assess post‑op or post‑invasive procedure patients.
  • Determine education and discharge needs; provide appropriate teaching.
  • Reassess patients, documenting observations, changes in condition, response to care, and other relevant information.
  • Establish, coordinate, and evaluate a plan of care based on assessment data, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care.
  • Identify short‑ and long‑term goals and formulate nursing interventions.
  • Incorporate disease‑specific evidence‑based practice into care plans.
  • Collaborate with health team members and communicate patient care plans, including hand‑off reports.
  • Administer medications and maintain accurate IV fluids and parenteral nutrition records.
  • Complete referrals, request consultations, and provide family education and discharge planning.
  • Clarify physician orders, document “readback” for verbal orders, and acknowledge orders promptly.
  • Assist physicians with procedures or delegate to Care Partners as appropriate.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and take appropriate nursing actions.
  • Involve family or guardians in care planning and decision making.
  • Use infection control practices in daily care activities.
  • Document ongoing evaluation of care effectiveness, education outcomes, and plan adjustments.
  • Report variations from care or treatment through the occurrence reporting policy.
  • Provide specialized care to high‑risk patients, including restraint use, pain management, and abuse assessment.
  • Maintain professional accountability and participate in continuous learning and improvement activities.
  • Teach and precept new staff and students when required.
  • Adhere to safety and infection control policies, including standard precautions and safe patient handling.
  • Complete all mandatory annual trainings and maintain current licenses and certifications.
  • Deliver service excellence by providing courteous, respectful, and timely care.
Qualifications
  • Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of Missouri.
  • Minimum one year of registered nurse experience, preferably in an intensive care setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) HCP certification and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification (or equivalent).
  • Completed annual trainings: Blood Borne Pathogens (if required), TB Screening, Influenza vaccination, Ethics, Safety, Information Security, Abuse & Neglect, and competency training.
  • Excellent communication, critical‑thinking, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including evening, night, and weekend shifts.

  • Require prolonged standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and transferring patients.
  • Work in a fast‑paced, unpredictable environment with regular crisis situations.
