Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the CVICU. You will identify and implement nursing interventions for a variety of high-acuity cardiac surgery patients, including heart and lung transplants, PTE, and VAD support, while promoting patient safety and care standards.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
• RN License issued by the State of California.
• BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
• Must have a minimum of one (1) year recent adult ICU experience.
• Ability to at all times adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.
• Demonstrates the ability to function effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced clinical environment while adapting to frequent workflow changes, managing stress, and maintaining professionalism.
• Utilizes strong critical thinking and analytical skills to manage multiple competing priorities, rapidly assess complex clinical situations, and implement appropriate interventions.
• Communicates effectively and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to support safe, high-quality patient care and promote a respectful, inclusive workplace culture.
• Actively engages in continuous learning and professional development to meet the evolving demands of the CVICU specialty.
• Maintains a positive, solution-oriented approach to challenges, encourages teamwork and open communication, and remains receptive to feedback to support individual and team growth.

Responsibilities

• Identify and implement nursing interventions for high-acuity CVICU patients.
• Provide care to heart and lung transplant patients, PTE, CABGs, valves and VAD cases.
• Promote compliance and support of hospital policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality patient care and a positive workplace culture.
